# Load balancing and peak control with Power Hub

2026-09-07When EV charging, cooking and heating run at the same time, the load in a home can rise quickly. Customers need to understand what is happening and choose how charging should adapt. Power Hub provides real-time data in the energy app. Together with a compatible charging station, it can also regulate the charging current when the household load risks becoming too high.

 Summary

[Power Hub](https://bitvis.se/vart-erbjudande/power-hub) shows how electricity is used in the home. Customers can receive notifications when the load is high and, with a compatible charging station, use load balancing and Peak Control to regulate EV charging. This reduces the risk of overload and can help customers stay below a chosen power level. It does not guarantee a certain saving or a lower grid fee.

  Worth distinguishing

[Real-time measurement](https://bitvis.se/en/our-functions/real-time-measurement), notifications and [automatic control](https://bitvis.se/en/our-functions/automated-control) are different things. Power Hub can give customers an overview without a charging station. [Load balancing](https://bitvis.se/en/our-functions/load-balancing) and [Peak Control](https://bitvis.se/en/our-functions/power-control) require a compatible, connected charging station and an active HAN port.

 ## When does household load become a problem?

Household electricity use can change quickly. The car may be charging while the oven is on and the heating system is running. If several appliances draw power on the same phase, the main fuse can be heavily loaded.

For the customer, the technical definition of power is rarely the point. The practical question is simpler: can the car charge without having to keep track of everything else in the home?

Power Hub makes the load visible in the app. Customers can follow their electricity use over time, see what is happening now and receive a notification when a chosen limit is at risk of being exceeded.

## From measurement to charging control

Power Hub connects to the electricity meter’s HAN port and sends measurement data to the energy app. There, customers can follow current power use and identify patterns in their household electricity use.

If the customer also has a compatible charging station, the charging current can be regulated within the limits they have chosen. That is where load balancing and Peak Control come in.

### Real-time measurement

Real-time measurement shows how much electricity the home is using right now. It gives customers a better basis for understanding when the load is high and how it changes during the day.

### Notifications when the load is high

Customers can receive a notification when phase load or total power use reaches a chosen limit. Without a connected charging station that can be controlled, the customer needs to reduce consumption themselves if the load becomes too high.

### Load balancing

Load balancing regulates the charging current when the household load risks becoming too high. If other electricity use increases, charging can be reduced temporarily. When capacity becomes available again, charging can increase.

The function is designed to reduce the risk of overloading the main fuse. It responds to what is happening at that moment.

### Peak Control

Peak Control works over a longer period. The customer chooses a preferred maximum average power level per hour. If the system assesses that the level risks being exceeded, it can reduce the charging current before the hour is over.

The aim is to avoid unnecessary power peaks. It does not mean that demand charges disappear or that a certain cost reduction can be promised. The outcome also depends on the customer’s tariff, other household consumption, the available charging window and the settings the customer has chosen.

## What does the customer need?

Automatic load balancing and Peak Control require:

The customer sets the limits. The system regulates charging within them. If the car is not charging, or reducing charging is not enough, the app can instead notify the customer about the situation.

## A simpler everyday experience

The goal is not for customers to monitor every peak in their electricity use. They should be able to cook, do laundry and charge their car without constantly wondering how the fuse or power level will be affected.

When control is active, the flow can look like this:

## What does this mean for energy companies?

For energy companies, Power Hub is about more than measurement data. It helps customers understand their electricity use in a situation that affects everyday life, while the energy company can keep the energy experience in its own app.

That creates a basis for an offering that can begin with insight and feedback. For customers with the right equipment, the offering can also include charging control.

Function Primary purpose What happens? Real-time measurement Understanding current electricity use The customer sees electricity data in the app or My Pages. Notifications Drawing attention to high load The customer receives information and decides what to do. Load balancing Reducing the risk of overload The charging current can be reduced directly. Peak control Staying below a chosen hourly limit The charging current can be reduced before an unnecessary power peak occurs.

 ## Frequently asked questions

Can Power Hub reduce the customer’s grid fee?Power Hub can give customers a clearer overview and, with a compatible charging station, regulate charging according to chosen limits. The customer’s cost also depends on the tariff, other electricity use and how the service is used.

Does Power Hub work without a charging station?Yes. Customers can use Power Hub for real-time measurement, history and notifications. Automatic load balancing and Peak Control also require a compatible, connected charging station.

What is the difference between load balancing and Peak Control?Load balancing responds to high load in the moment and aims to reduce the risk of overloading the main fuse. Peak Control uses a chosen hourly average power level and can reduce charging earlier in the hour.
